Forsythia bush greets our visitors at the gate.
Happy first day of spring! We almost missed it due to some interesting mishaps here in the hollow. We had some quarry rock delivered for our chicken barnyard project and as the truck driver emptied his truck bed, he moved forward before lowering his bed. Despite my husband’s warnings and shouts to “Stop!”…the driver continued forward, ripping the power line, bending the power pole and damaging the roof of the work shop. The sparks were seen from the farmhouse. We were without power for a short period as the electric company came to repair the damage. We still need to get the workshop roof repaired, but thankfully the quarry company will be footing the bill. There is literally never a dull moment here in the hollow. (smile)
As we bid adieu to winter, signs of new life are popping up all around the homestead. Not a moment too soon as we have entered into some rainy spells. Love the excess water for dishes, baths, and laundry, but the cloudy and gloomy days set such a solemn tone around here since our precious son’s passing last month. He is never far from my mind and always in my broken mama’s heart, but as the weeks pass, the family is beginning to move forward and simply live life again. We’re able to even laugh and smile as we reminisce of all the beautiful ways our precious boy touched our lives over the 10 years that we were blessed to have him here on earth with us. What other choices are there, really? Life is a gift and we are never promised tomorrow, so living with purpose and gratitude is a choice worth choosing. Amen?! Hope you enjoy this outdoor tour of the property as we welcome spring this year. I can’t wait until our son’s lilac bushes that we planted on the hill, by the pond in his memory, start to bloom. We continue to take it one day at a time and hold tight to Jesus!
Tulips welcome our guests as they make the walk to the front porch.
Wild flowers are always a pretty sight.
Daffodils are always the first to say ,”Hello.”
These wild pansies/violets and wild onions are rich in nutrients and are super delicious when added to a fresh salad or as an easy snack.
Our Dominque Chickens will soon be welcoming another 20 chicks to their family. Our littles are raising them for 4H club and will be able to sell their best 3 in the fall. What a blessing the simple life in the country can be! Thank you for continuing to follow along.
Until next time,
Isaiah 26:3-4
